Flathead Electric Cooperative receives $2.6M+ federal grant for grid upgrades to mitigate wildfire risks

Grant funds will go towards project to work in the Essex area, improving the reliability of its radial electric distribution system in a heavily forested area that is frequently challenged by tree-caused power outages which have the potential to ignite a wildfire.

Members purchasing “panels” in Community Solar III are purchasing a panel’s generation, not the panel itself. Each member may purchase the generation from up to five panels. On-bill financing is available for qualified members.

Flathead County Solid Waste District recently partnered with the Co-op to complete a multi-year methane well expansion project that will significantly increase gas collection ahead of the addition of a second engine.

In 2012, Flathead Electric Co-op signed a 2-phase power purchase agreement with the City of Whitefish for the advance purchase of electricity generated from the city’s hydro-electric generator.

In 2016, Flathead Electric Co-op (FEC) signed a 2-phase power purchase agreement with the City of Libby for the advance purchase of electricity generated from the city’s hydro-electric generator, located near the water treatment facility in Lincoln County.
