Natalie Raymond recently received the award for Best Energy Related Science Project at the 2023 Flathead County Science Fair.
Raymond’s project, titled “A Simple Electric Motor,” also took home a Physical Sciences Grand Champion, Third Grade, award. There were several electricity-themed science projects, across multiple grade levels, in the entries. Raymond’s project sought to determine whether magnets affect the speed of an electric motor. Her hypothesis was that placement of magnets near the electric motor would alter its speed – and she was right. Winning the Best Energy award was unexpected, however. “I was totally surprised!” Raymond exclaimed at the Science Fair.
Raymond is a 3rd grader at Glacier Gateway Elementary School in Columbia Falls. Flathead Electric Co-op presents the Best Energy Related Science Project award annually at the Flathead County Science Fair and encourages all area youth to learn more about energy.
