Flathead County GIS, Flathead Valley Community College, and Flathead Electric Cooperative announce Flathead Valley GIS Day, an open house featuring presentations on GIS issues, work, and advancements in the area. Topics include:
- Utilizing Satellite Data to Inform Wildfire Mitigation Decision Making – Flathead Electric Co-op
- Efficiencies in Field Data Collection for Flathead County Mosquito Control – Flathead County GIS
- Mapping Ponderosa Pine: A Citizen Science Project – FVCC
The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) field focuses on storing, managing, and analyzing geographical information on a computer. In short, GIS is mapping technology and is creatively used across many industries to empower data-driven decisions and program management.
Flathead Valley GIS Day will be held at Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Community Room from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, November 15. Presentations on local GIS projects that impact the Flathead Valley are scheduled from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Although the free event is aimed at GIS pros, members of the public interested in the field of GIS work – including high school and college students – are encouraged to attend.
