Get to know the people working for you. Meet Collin Novotny, Geographic Information System (GIS) Supervisor

Collin-Novotny

Q. What does the GIS Supervisor do for the Co-op?

A. The GIS department gathers the most current information about our equipment in the field, usually from work orders, service orders, or field checks.  We enter this information into our database and then we utilize GIS programs to create and maintain apps to get reliable grid data to those who need it.  This is primarily our linemen, servicemen, designers, dispatchers, and MSRs.  Having reliable data from the GIS department is crucial for every Co-op employee to be able to do their job well and keep the lights on!

Q. What’s the best part of your job?

A. Getting to use creativity and problem-solving to find solutions to questions or project ideas that are brought to me by other departments. Each day presents so many new opportunities for me to improve my knowledge or skill in my job and I love constantly learning. I also really like maps.

Q. What’s your favorite thing about living in the Co-op’s service area?

A. My family and the community we have found here. Raising kids in the Flathead Valley offers so many opportunities to go out and experience or learn new things together. An individual may personally have experienced something, but what a joy to re-experience it through the wonder of your children! The community we have found in our local church solidifies Kalispell as the perfect place for our family to live life to the fullest.
