Meet the 2024 Candidates

The Co-op’s service area is divided into 9 districts, and each district’s members are represented by a Trustee. Together, the Board of Trustees manages the business and affairs of the Co-op. You, as a member-owner of your autonomous, democratically controlled Co-op, have the right to vote for these Trustees, whether they live in your district or not. This year, seats for districts 2, 3, and 5 are up for election.

District 2

John Sliney

I’m a self-employed business owner, who started with a simple excavation company which was established in 1954 by my grandfather. I have grown and expanded the business with many sacrifices in order to support my family throughout the years with varying economies. I established J&M Transfer in 1999 which employs 21 people and services customers in 3 states. I have been in business for over 30 years, made many important financial decisions focusing on short and long term planning to ensure the company’s future. I will put the same amount of effort, interpersonal skills and solid planning into the Board.

District 3

Gary Carmichael

As the newest member of the board, my focus has been and will continue to be on the reliability of electric services, affordability and growing capacity to meet demand. I recently completed training courses necessary for the Directors Certificate. With Montana roots predating statehood, I understand taking care of future generations. During my 33-year Montana teaching career, I had the honor of serving as Montana Teacher of the Year and have received other national awards. I continue to volunteer with Whitefish Scouting.
