Thank you for helping our employees safely access this important equipment.

Starting this fall, two Co-op staff members are embarking on a significant undertaking that harkens back to the old days before automated meter systems.

Over the coming years, staff will be traveling throughout our entire service territory to physically inspect all 77,715+ electric meters to ensure this critical equipment is working properly.

During each inspection, employees will check the meter’s condition, accessibility and installation, along with any other concerns that could affect safety, service or billing. Most inspections will take about five to 10 minutes.

Because meters are located on members’ properties, Co-op staff may need to enter a driveway, yard, or other outdoor area to reach the equipment.

As part of receiving electric service, Co-op members agree to allow authorized Co-op staff access to their property when necessary to inspect, maintain, or service meters and related equipment owned by the Co-op.

They will attempt to contact the property owner before beginning the inspection. If a meter is inaccessible or a dog prevents employees from safely approaching it, they will arrange a future visit.

Your Co-op uses meters that fundamentally do one thing: measure how much electricity a member uses.

Why inspect every meter?

While automated meters improve efficiency, accuracy, and outage management, in-person inspections help employees verify that equipment is properly installed, accessible, and in good condition, and identify issues before they affect service or billing.

These in-person inspections will help us prioritize maintenance, plan future work and continue providing safe, accurate and reliable service.

As a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, your Co-op is responsible for maintaining its equipment carefully and using member resources wisely. Thank you for helping our employees safely access this important equipment.
