While your Co-op continues to offer some of the lowest electric rates in the nation, staff and the Board of Trustees understand that any increase in electric rates can be difficult, especially as many members are already facing rising everyday costs.
Effective June 1, Flathead Electric Cooperative will implement an overall rate increase of 5.5%.
While your Co-op continues to offer some of the lowest electric rates in the nation, staff and the Board of Trustees understand that any increase in electric rates can be difficult, especially as many members are already facing rising everyday costs. As a not-for-profit Cooperative, Flathead Electric provides power at cost. Rates are set only to cover the expense of delivering safe, reliable electricity.
In recent years, those costs have increased largely due to higher wholesale power prices, rising material and equipment costs, and system resiliency and reliability projects. To help limit impacts, your Co-op takes a proactive approach to controlling expenses through long-term power supply planning, strategic energy purchasing, and careful financial management, including its rate stability program.
Flathead Electric also works to improve efficiency and reliability by evaluating new technologies and pursuing grant funding to offset infrastructure costs. These efforts have helped keep rate increases well below inflation for many years.
