Our outage map is a simple way to see where power outages are occurring and get a better understanding of their location and scope. Here are a few tips to help you get the information you need from the map:

First, point your browser to https://outage.flathead.coop:8181/.

You can access the map through our outage center, too, and its easy-to-remember address: flatheadelectric.com/outage

Next, zoom in to find your location.
The map reflects Flathead Electric Cooperative’s entire service area, which stretches from Libby to Essex, north to Big Mountain, and south to Rollins and the Swan. The electric grid is complex, and the map reflects each of your Co-op’s 77,000+ meters.

Then, move around the map.

Find the area that you live in. On a computer, use the “+” and “–” buttons on the map or your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in. On a phone or tablet, you can pinch with two fingers to zoom in and out. Zooming in will reveal more detail, making it easier to pinpoint an exact area or neighborhood. Keep clicking/pinching and zooming in until you find your location. You can click and drag the map (or swipe on a touchscreen) to move around. This is helpful if you’re zoomed in and want to check nearby areas without zooming back out. Colored areas or markers on the map represent reported outages. As you zoom in, these areas may break into smaller sections, giving you a clearer picture of where outages are concentrated.

In the upper right corner, click on the hamburger/three-horizontal-bars icon to display the map legend. It can help you determine what the outage marker in your area means:

Clicking the red, orange, or blue hexagon associated with your outage may give you information specific to your outage.

  • A blue square reflects a planned outage.

  • A solid, red hexagon with a number in it reflects a reported, confirmed outage. The number indicates the estimated number of meters affected.

  • A red hexagon with black diagonal lines and a number inside indicates that a crew has been assigned to a reported, confirmed outage. The number indicates the estimated number of meters affected.

  • A solid, orange hexagon with a number inside reflects an outage that has been reported but is not yet confirmed by dispatch or crews. The number indicates the estimated number of meters affected.

  • Sometimes, the colored hexagon may not match the entire shaded area if the area is quite large or divided into multiple sections. However, if your area is within the shaded polygon, you can be confident that your outage has been reported successfully.

The More You Know

Be sure to check out the gray box at the bottom of the map, too. Click on the graph icon to see the total number of outages impacting meters in Flathead Electric’s service area. Click on the map icon to change the base layer of the map or to add a weather layer.

Be sure to check back for updates!
The map updates as new information becomes available. If you don’t see your exact location right away, try zooming in further or checking back later as crews assess conditions and restore service. In almost all outage situations*, the automated outage map is your best source for information such as:

  • whether your Co-op is aware of your outage
  • if a crew has been assigned to your outage
  • what the cause of the outage is (this isn’t always known)
  • if crews have estimated a time of restoration for your outage (please be patient – even in a small outage situation with crews available to respond immediately, they still have to gather their equipment, travel to your location, determine the outage cause and what materials may be needed for repair, and check in with dispatch to relay this information before they can consider estimating a time for restoration)

*During a widespread outage, the map is likely to experience delays. In that instance, the Co-op will post the most up-to-date outage information on its website’s home page and on Facebook.

TIP! You Can Use Your Online Account to Confirm that Your Outage has been Reported

Log in to your account online or through your My Co-op app. If you see a red danger icon with this message, “We are working to resolve outages in your area,” that means your outage is reported, and the Co-op is currently aware of it. You don’t need to do anything else at this time. If this message disappears at some point and you are still without power, please report your outage again to ensure the co-op is aware of your ongoing power outage.

Desktop account online:

My Co-op Mobile App

If you see a blue alarm icon with the message “No outages are reported in your area,” the Co-op is not aware of your outage. Please report your outage.

Here’s how to report your outage:

    • Text OUT to (406) 751-4449. (Learn more about this new Automated Outage Texting service.)
    • Report the outage through your My Co-op mobile app or by logging into your online account.
    • Call the Co-op at (406) 751-4449. (Keep in mind that in a widespread outage situation, you’ll be asked to leave a message while dispatchers work to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.)
