If you’ve recently flown in or out of Glacier Park International Airport (GPIA), you’ve probably noticed the construction walls, detours, and heavy equipment dotting the grounds. The airport is in the midst of a multi-phase, $100 million terminal expansion, transforming the once small-town travel hub into a facility ready for the region’s rapid growth.
As part of Phase 1, Flathead Electric Cooperative partnered with GPIA’s electrical contractor to support energy-efficient lighting upgrades, providing a $48,452 rebate through our commercial lighting program.
The new system is expected to save 376,248 kilowatt-hours annually, representing a 43% reduction in usage compared to standard code. For the airport, those savings add up to more than $25,000 in reduced electricity costs each year.
When major energy users invest in efficiency, the benefits go beyond their own bottom line. These efforts contribute to long-term energy reliability and affordability for the entire community.
