Flathead Electric Cooperative trustees recently joined leaders from other co-ops to advocate for their members during the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Legislative Conference, which was held in Washington, D.C., from April 27 to 30. This conference provides an opportunity for electric cooperative leaders to hear from members of Congress and administration officials and discuss legislative issues affecting electric co-ops and their member-owners.
FEC trustees and other co-op leaders met with the Montana congressional delegation to discuss key issues affecting their members. The primary topics included EPA regulations, the importance of protecting federal hydropower resources, the need for congressional action on wildfires, and preserving FEMA assistance to member-owned co-ops.
Montana co-op leaders also had a productive meeting with the U.S. Forest Service. USFS officials underscored their commitment to working with co-ops on vegetation management permitting and wildfire risk mitigation efforts, and expressed support for important provisions in the Fix Our Forests Act.
