Flathead Electric Cooperative moves to temporary new location in Libby
With the closing of Flathead Electric Co-op’s (FEC) office in Libby for new construction, a temporary office just south of the parking lot at 120 West 5th Street, Suite 6, will serve members until the new construction has been finalized. The temporary office includes a drive-through, a drop box, and a kiosk, all located on the east side of the building. The drive-through will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and the kiosk will stay open 24/7. Member service representatives will answer calls in Libby at (406) 293-7122.
FEC’s old office in Libby will undergo a major overhaul in the coming months. Built in the 1950’s, the office is antiquated in a number of ways, including the presence of asbestos in the cinder blocks and floor tiles, and the Board of Trustees felt the time had come for renovation. Additionally, modern line trucks don’t fit in the truck bays. The new building will be designed to be much more member friendly, secure, visually attractive and energy efficient. Consideration is also being given to the addition of solar power and electric vehicle charging facilities.
Due to COVID-19 and the call for social distancing and protecting the health of employees, FEC is evaluating a timeline on construction, but hopes to demolish the existing structure sometime this year. Besides the addition of a new office (scheduled for construction to begin on the existing site in the spring of 2021), the project includes an additional facility at the Libby Substation for trucks and other equipment. Flathead Electric will notify members of new developments as the project evolves.
