Flathead Electric Cooperative announces recent scholarship awards to 34 local students. The Co-op’s Trustees utilized unclaimed capital credits to fund these scholarships. Despite the Co-op’s best efforts to return capital credits to its members, some go unclaimed. Usually, this is because a member moves and doesn’t update their mailing address. The Co-op can use capital credits that go unclaimed for 5 or more years for educational purposes. If the Co-op chose not to use the unclaimed capital credits for educational purposes, these funds would go into the Montana General Fund.
This year’s recipients are:
Dane Whipple, Boden Barr, Kanen Brickert, Carson Settles, Iris Bruce, Josephine Wilson, Carlee Hemenway, Zaden Stout, Bergen Fortner, Rowen Sherbo, Walton Seigmund, Ava Bessen, Keni Wade, Gabrielle Thorson, Madison Nickel, Jax Ramage, Tyron Byers, Ariana Sydnor, Antonio Rojo, Kendall Pyron, Kaitlyn Wilke, Taite Hammer, Augustyn Cox, Riley Moffit, Macy Cotton, Abigail Pilskalns, Naomi Jutzi, Thomas Putnam, Lilli Eash, Maya Graham, Emily Stoneman, Lydia Pilskalns, Grace Steindorf, and Kaylee Hampton.
The Co-op strives to award scholarship dollars to meet varied community needs across its service area. Scholarship dollars are earmarked for each area high school, including Stillwater Christian School. Dollars are also set aside for homeschool graduates and for those already attending a post-secondary Montana education institution.
Additionally, scholarships are awarded yearly to students pursuing trades degrees, including those interested in attending Flathead Valley Community College’s Early Childhood Education Program or Montana Tech’s Pre-Apprentice Line Program. A few scholarships are given each year to students attending the Co-op’s Annual Meeting & Energy Expo. Finally, Co-op partners Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and the Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association (MECA) also award scholarships to area students.
