Enjoying the Kool-aid!
I admit, I’m drinking the Kool-Aid. Inefficient v8 gas guzzlers that once dominated the streets should be put to rest in museums right next to all the other antiquated nuts and bolts. Throw out the gas and charge up the volts! A new era of transportation is upon us, and if its an EV, it’s for me!
I’ve been interested in buying an EV for some time now, but wanted to test one out before jumping in. So when I found out Flathead Electric would loan us their electric car for a few days, I nearly jumped out of my socks. About a week later my wife and I drove down to pick it up. After a quick lap around the block with Teri(an employee of Flathead Electric), we were sent on our way. The process couldn’t have been easier.
As the man of the house, I just had to drive it first. The first day was pretty uneventful. Who knew an all electric Nissan Leaf drove just like a regular gas powered car? With the exception of one pedal driving, nothing seemed different. Over a weekend, we learned it was not necessary to charge up every day. Only living eight miles from town, and the car having 151 mile EPA rated range, we could make the trip several times a day and still have ample battery left to do it all again the next day. Charging was done with a simple 120v wall outlet. Slow but effective.
Before taking one last spin around the block and returning the car, I was already installing a 240v outlet in our garage, in preparation for our first EV.
Thank you Teri, and all at Flathead Electric COOP, we appreciate not only the loaner car but all the “green” programs you offer. Free LED light bulbs, water heater timers, and peak usage billing are beneficial for everyone. Keep it up!
