Get More Value from Your Smart Thermostat
Smart thermostats help manage your home’s cooling more efficiently while keeping you comfortable during the hottest summer days.
Through Flathead Electric’s Smart Thermostat Program, participating thermostats may make small, temporary adjustments during periods of high electricity demand. These adjustments help reduce peak energy use while supporting reliable and affordable power for the community.
In return, participating members receive bill credits and annual incentives.
How Smart Cooling Works
- Pre-Cool Your Home — Before a peak demand event, your thermostat may lower your home’s temperature by up to 2 degrees to help keep your home comfortable.
- Reduce Peak Cooling Demand — During periods of high electricity demand, your air conditioner runs less frequently while maintaining comfort.
- Earn Incentives — Members who participate throughout the summer season receive annual performance incentives.
Your Comfort Remains in Your Control
You may adjust or override your thermostat settings at any time:
- directly on your thermostat,
- through your thermostat mobile app,
- or through the event notification link.
You will receive an email or text notification when a peak event is scheduled.
Program Incentives
Participating members receive:
- A $50 enrollment bill credit
- A $15 annual performance incentive
- Smart cooling optimization during summer peak demand periods
- Access to qualifying smart thermostat rebates
Members who regularly participate throughout the cooling season remain eligible for the annual performance incentive. Need to opt out of an event? No problem — you can opt out of up to three peak events each season and still receive the annual performance incentive.

Flathead Electric also offers rebates of up to $140 on qualifying smart thermostats for eligible electric heating and cooling systems.
Eligible rebate thermostats that can also participate in the Smart Thermostat Program include:

- Resideo
Smart thermostat rebates help lower the upfront cost of upgrading your home’s cooling system while allowing you to earn additional incentives through the Smart Thermostat Program (learn more about rebates).

Thermostats must:
- Control a central air conditioner or heat pump
- Be connected to WiFi
Additional thermostat models may become eligible in the future.
