Some common-sense safety tips to take you back into the fall season.
September’s yellow school buses remind us all to slow down for safety. While you’re slowing down, please also remember that you’re required by law – and common sense! – to move over for your Co-op’s hard-working men and women out repairing, maintaining, and expanding your electric distribution system. Montana’s Move Over law is intended to offer greater protection to utility workers by requiring motorists to slow down and move over for them, just as they would for police, fire, or ambulance. If you see Co-op crews displaying flashing or rotating amber lights or temporary signs advising of an emergency scene or accident, the “Move Over” law applies.
You can also help keep Co-op workers safe by remembering that power poles are not bulletin boards. Did you know that hanging signs on power poles creates a serious safety hazard? Staples, nails, and tacks damage the protective equipment linemen wear while working with high-voltage electricity and compromise the structural integrity of the poles. Please help keep linemen safe (and your electricity as affordable as possible!) by not attaching anything to power poles.
