Scholarship applications open on January 1. Awards range from $1,000-$6,000.

In November or December, you might have received a 2009 capital credit payment on your electric bill. Have you ever wondered what happens when your Co-op can’t connect capital credits to members? This usually happens when a member moves away without leaving a new address. If the capital credit remains unclaimed for five years or more, Montana law allows that money to be used for educational purposes.

Community Relations Manager Katie Pfennigs shares, “We do our best to return capital credits to our members, but sometimes those funds go unclaimed. We are grateful that Montana law allows our Trustees to re-distribute those unclaimed capital credits for educational purposes that benefit our members. Over the years, those dollars have been thoughtfully invested back into the communities we serve, such as through our scholarship program.”

Scholarship applications open on January 1. Awards range from $1,000-$6,000. Over $120,000 in scholarship funds are available!
