Annual Meeting Draws 350 Members

Reports show Co-op in good condition

About 350 members attended the 66th annual meeting of Flathead Electric Cooperative, held March 29 at Flathead High School.

Board President Karl Schrade reported that unity and stability described the Board of Trustees as its members worked together to guide the cooperative and revise the bylaws.

The Co-op had a successful year in 2002, ending the year with $9.4 million in margins and building needed equity and reserves. The Co-op continued to grow, with nearly 1,300 new services energized.
The meeting included reports from the board and management, and a presentation reviewing highlights of the year 2002 at the Co-op.

Bruce Measure, chairman of the committee that revised the bylaws, gave an overview of the proposed changes and answered members’ questions. A complete copy of existing and proposed bylaws was included in the last issue of Watts Happening. Additional copies are available at Co-op offices in Kalispell and Libby.

For the first time, no voting took place at the annual meeting, because of a bylaw change approved in 2002. Instead, all Co-op members will have the opportunity to vote by mail on an extensive revision and updating of the bylaws and to elect three trustees. The change was designed to give more members the opportunity to participate in Co-op decisions.

Ballots have been mailed out to all members. If you haven’t received a ballot, call the Co-op. To be counted, ballots must be returned to JCCS, the independent accounting firm that will tally them, by April 18.
