Change a Light, Change the World

Help Conserve Energy - One Light at at Time

Flathead Electric Cooperative has partnered with Bonneville Power Administration and subcontractors Northwest Energy Star Consumer Products to bring the Change a Light, Change the World Program to the Flathead.

The Change a Light Campaign is a national challenge encouraging every American to help change the world, one light - one energy-saving step - at a time. You can show your commitment by pledging to replace at least one light in your home with another that has earned the ENERGY STAR label.

The government's ENERGY STAR label on lighting means you're getting a product that is superior in energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last 6-10 times longer. Save energy and money by changing a light!

If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year. CFLs cost a little more up front, but will provide a quick return on investment.

Change a Light is a program whereby Flathead Electric has reduced the costs of CFLs per pack during the promotion.

Where can you buy your CFL? The promotion will be running Sept. 1st to December 1st at Albertsons and Cardinal True Value (Flathead Valley and Libby locations), and from Sept. 15 to May 31st at Home Depot, Lowes, Costco and Wal-Mart stores.

Look for the displays at the end of shelves with the Change a Light and Flathead Electric logos.

Roundup For Safety is a voluntary program for FEC members.

Participating members allow their electric bills to be rounded up to the next dollar, with the extra money going into a fund for community safety projects.

Applications from non-profit groups are considered each month by a board of directors representing each Co-op district.

For information and application forms, call 751-4483 in Kalispell and 293-7122 in Libby.
