Living in Paradise Provides Some Interesting Challenges
Weather and Critters keep FEC staff busy year-round

Listening to the babbling brook after hiking across rocky terrain.  Observing the landscape of snow-covered mountains and trees for miles.  Feeling a rush of adrenaline as abundant wildlife surrounds you.  All of this provides your senses with a level of peace an comfort.  We love life here because of all of these things.

Look at the world through different lenses. FEC right-of-way maintenance crews prevent outages by making sure this doesn't happen Think for a moment about the accessibility and reliability of electricity.  Challenges of all shapes and sizes present themselves as your Co-op strives to keep the lights on.  3,841 miles of FEC overhead and underground lines in the dead of winter through trees and rocky hillsides and those critters keep staff on their toes.  We're up to the challenge - we love it here too.

One way we meet the challenge is through prevention of service interruptions.  For example, tree trimming and right-of-way functions prevent limbs from contacting power lines or equipment.  Steve Quigley, FEC's Right-of-Way Director, states, "Reliable electric service is our number one priority and our right-of-way maintenance program helps use meet that commitment to our members."

When nature triumphs over prevention, make sure you protect your home and business electronics.  Install surge protectors.  Take care not to overload circuits with too many items plugged into power strips and extension cords.  Prepare an emergency kit before an interruption in service so that you and your family will be safe and less inconvenienced.
