FEC’s Electrical Safety Training

28 Construction professionals learn
about the "Ten-Foot Circle of Safety"

FEC Safety Manager, Steve Bech, was more than a little happy about the excellent attendance for his safety training on the evening of May 19. The training was targeted for drywall professionals in the Valley.

"We are catching this groupSteve Bech and Dan Roe discuss with local contractors ways to conduct themselves safely around power lines. early in their busiest work season," states Steve, "the more impact we have now about how to stay safe, the better chance there won’t be an electrical accident later." Of the 28 attendees, there were representatives from Lilienthal Insulation Company, Northwest Drywall and Building Supply, Stock Building Supply and Western Building Center.

"These organizations should be applauded for taking a proactive approach to safety," continues Steve, "each individual in that room has a new respect for electricity and they walked away with a personal commitment to safety."

The training involved an overview from Steve and FEC Lineman, Dan Roe. The "Ten Foot Circle of Safety" involves the OSHA regulation requiring that contractors and workers keep themselves and their equipment at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines. Attendees were encouraged to have another worker watch equipment operators at all times to make sure nobody violates the 10-Foot Circle of Safety. One of the most important messages that Steve and Dan provided was that FEC is here to help these professionals. If they have questions about the lines or need safety materials or instruction, they can call us at 751-4483.

FEC encourages other businesses to call if they want to learn more about working safely around electricity. Every employee at FEC is committed to safety and we are always available to help keep our members safe through training and education opportunities.
