Flathead Electric Expands Rebate Programs
Payments range from $500 to $2,000

Flathead Electric has expanded incentive programs that pay rebates to members on purchases of a number of energy-efficient items.

“We want to help our customers save both energy and money by offering these rebates that encourage purchase of energy-efficient appliances,” said Ross Holter, Energy Services Coordinator for the Co-op. “Some of the existing programs have changed and some new ones have been created.”

Here is a summary of the rebates being offered under the revised program.

Water Heaters — The Co-op will continue to pay a rebate of $60 on new water heaters that meet energy-efficiency standards. Your retailer will know which models qualify for the rebate. If you have difficulty finding a qualifying model, call the Co-op office.

Air Source Heat Pump — The amount of the rebate offered on purchases of Air Source Heat Pump systems is going from $500 to $1,000.

Ground Source Heat Pump — The rebate on open-loop systems will increase from $500 to $1,500. The rebate on closed-loop systems will increase from $1,000 to $2,000. A ground source heat pump is three to four times more efficient than a conventional furnace. Heat pumps must be installed by qualified professionals from a list of installers approved by the Co-op.

The Co-op is also establishing new rebates for energy-efficient washing machines and Super Good Cents manufactured homes.

Energy-efficient Washing Machines — The Co-op will pay a $100 rebate for the purchase and installation of a clothes washer with an Energy Star rating. These are typically the front-load style, although some top-load models are eligible for the rebate. The rebate applies to purchases made after Jan. 1, 2003, for units installed in the Co-op’s service area. These washing machines use considerably less water and leave the clothes dryer than conventional machines.

Super Good Cents Manufactured Homes — The Co-op will pay a $1,000 rebate to any member who purchases and sites a qualified unit in its service area. Homes built to Super Good Cents standards have extra insulation and other energy-saving features.
