Youth Leaders Respond to Training Area students get involved in leadership "What's next?" You automatically hear this question when you work with students who have completed their year-long commitment to the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) program managed by United Way. "We put highly motivated, intelligent high school students in front of community leaders once a month throughout their junior year and they take charge," said Nancy Greer, LOT Advisory Council Chair and United Way volunteer. Justin Rubalcaba is the new
youth representative for Justin Rubalcaba, like most LOT students, asked where he could serve his community now that he had graduated from the program. When he heard about Roundup For Safety, he knew that's where he wanted to go. Flathead Electric's Board of Trustees approved his request to serve as a student representative on the Roundup For Safety board. "It was really cool to go around to see the leadership positions in businesses around the community last year," said Justin. "I wanted to serve with an organization that benefitted the community in a positive way and Roundup looked interesting. Now, I realize that if people took the time to hear about it, they'd be excited to be a part. A little pocket change given to the program can be a huge contribution to community organizations." Co-op members contribute money monthly to Roundup For Safety by allowing their electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar. Justin says he learned from other community leaders to get involved, help out and "to be more vocal on issues that I have an opinion on." Thanks, Justin, for sharing and being an active participant of the Roundup For Safety program. |
