All utilities, including Flathead Electric, are mandated by the federal
government to require a credit check through your social security number.
This credit check will determine if a minimum advance payment of $100 is
required. we will refund your advance payment after one full year of good
payment history or when you leave our service territory.
An advance payment on new construction is based on the estimated load of the
service.
The business office can also run credit checks for the
member.
Why was my bill estimated?
If we read your meter, it could be that the meter reader was unable to get to
your meter site because of a locked gate, weather, dogs, etc. A message on your
bill will explain why we could not get to the meter. If this happens, please
contact our office.
When is my payment due?
Your statement date and due date are printed on the
top right hand side of your bill and on the payment stub. Normally the due date
is 20 days from the statement date.
Can I pay via credit card, debit card, or automatic withdrawal?
We offer both credit card and automatic withdrawal.
Please call our office to set this up on your account.
Several things can cause your bill to be higher than normal. In the winter, it could
be that you are heating your home more or plugging in vehicles all night.
In the summer, it could be that you have air conditioning on or are watering
your lawn more often. Some of the most common reasons for a sudden increase in
consumption are water heater elements going bad, heaters running in pump houses
during the winter or well pumps running all the time.
Call our office for some tips on how to minimize your use. Or see our
energy management section.
Why do I have to keep paying the basic charge if I have the meter removed?
Your basic charge is there on your bill regardless
of whether you have a meter in place. This fee covers taxes, depreciation, and
insurance on the equipment in the field, plus the maintenance of our lines and
substations that feed your service. Even though you are not using any
electricity these costs are still incurred.
Where else can I pay my bill besides Flathead Electric's Evergreen, or Libby, headquarters?
We have several drop boxes located at grocery
stores throughout the valley where you can drop off your payment. A delivery
service picks all the envelopes up each day and delivers them to our business
office.
Glacier Bank also will take payments for us, but you must have a copy of your
bill.
If our Evergreen headquarters is closed, you can deposit payments at the drive
through window and the express drop box in the parking lot.
If our Libby office is closed you can deposit payments in the
after hours drop box located at the front entrance.
When it is time to replace your water heater, call our office for information about
purchasing an energy-efficient model. The water heater must be installed in our service
territory. You can bring in the purchase invoice that lists the manufacturer and model
number of the tank, and then fill out a short form. Within two weeks, you will receive a rebate check.
If I am a property owner, how do I set up the process to have the power automatically
switched over to my name between renters?
Flathead Electric has Rental Property Agreements available for property owners. We offer
three different options, and each requires the signature of the owner/landlord before it
can be implemented.
Call and visit with a Member Service Representative to get the process started.
Why does the Cooperative need a Social Security number?
We ask for your Social Security number for security purposes when we are starting a new account.
